The Echoes Live Forever
The Men of Jefferson Starship

This could have been a bleak assessment of those that made a difference. Perhaps it was an observation of what remains from the glory days of Jefferson Starship and their mercurial rise to international stardom, aided by the legend of Jefferson Airplane and the copious amounts of LSD during the late sixties. From the intense hippiedom of psychedelia to the happy amalgam of folk and rock n? roll, the ability to focus on great music was always a combatant for tendencies of dalliances with drug choice of the day. This regimentation always seemed to keep the pejorative expectations at bay.

The musical pastiche of Paul Kantner, David Freiberg, Pete Sears, Marty Balin and on occasions, Jack Casady, provide a vivid montage of harmony and supremacy that has managed to become as vital to the genre in 2006 as it was in 1976. As a band, they are an enigma, especially during the dawn of fashion accelerating but culture remaining as it once was. There is no inherent conservatism to the tunes of these iconic musicians, although mysticism is often the word of choice.

Once perceived as a musical paradigm, the foundation of the band stems from the embryonic days around Golden Gate Park and all continue to exude that ideology well into the twilight of gifted careers. They are now more whimsical, more approachable and indeed, coming to terms with their impact on the genre and their generation. As we often do while getting older, we fantasize about days gone by, specific events and a decade where we were as vital to the success of any chosen band as the minstrels themselves.

When opportunity is given, attending a live performance of these iconic figures is an alternative method of turning back the years. There is no erosion of given skills and the echoes of The Avalon Ballroom & The Fillmores will ring in heads for the rest of your life.

For Paul Kantner, David Freiberg, Marty Balin, Pete Sears and Jack Casady, we remember those carefree, exuberant days in the sequestered area adjacent to Golden Gate Park but we also look to the future knowing that you have not just defined the era with your music but have helped shape most of us into what our chosen paths have been. May all be with their chosen God and forever ?Rock
In Peace?.
